Spontaneous Language at Last!

One time, when I was out shopping with my daughter, we made a pit stop at a department store to use the bathroom. After lots of pushing and grunting, she finally announced "it's stuck!" This was such a proud moment for me! Not that I was happy to hear that she was constipated, but it was one of the first times that I knew she had generalized a word (used a word in a new context without being taught) and used it spontaneously and appropriately. There is no way that a therapist could have trained her to say "it's stuck" while trying to push out a poop!

Hippie Doctor

Our family pediatrician is extremely nice and qualified, but he looks like he stepped out of the 1970's. He is about 60 years old. but always wears jeans and his long, speckled grey hair in a ponytail. One time, when we were in the process of teaching my daughter how to tell boys and girls apart, she asked him "Are you a boy or a girl?". Oops...
